7.62x39 Factory loadings run between 2396fps & 2421fps. FMJ (Spitzer) and Hollowpoint commercial ammunition are not a problem because they travel at sufficient speed to mushroom upon impact on shields of this type. Sub-Sonic AK Ammo, which is unavailable domestically, is what has been red-flagged as a problem for UHMWPE Ballistic Shields. Chinese military-issue ammunition in this caliber is M43 style with a mild steel core and a thin jacket of copper or brass. Chinese ammunition (as well as all other M43 ammunition) is currently banned from importation in the U.S. because U.S. federal law classifies the round as an armor-piercing handgun round. This classification is based on materials and bullet design rather than on empirical ability to penetrate armor.
The trolley is made from box section mild steel and comprises three parts which are bolted together with three 8mm thumb screws to enable quick deployment. The two rear wheels are braked and all four solid rubber wheels have independent steering. The shield is securely mounted onto the Quad Trolley by means of parallel vertical slotted bars and can be mounted and dismounted within seconds without the need of tools.

The shield design originated from a police requirement to provide a Level IV shield which could also be easily carried in a standard police car. The shield enables the operator to roll the shield to the engagement site and moved to the optimum position for maximum protection in a minimum profile. The shield is constructed with an alumina oxide ceramic face bonded to an Aramid backer. The ballistic view port is rated at the same protection level as the shield body.
