Here's how!

Members of our staff and contract instructor cadre are constantly signing up and taking courses from Training entities as well as teaching alongside Topic-Specific Instructors. Our people come back and report not only on their experiences but on the quality of the lessons taught.

Occasionally, they return with horror stories but on most of these training missions, their work skill-sets have increased significantly enough to warrant special mention of the school or instructor who provided the education. We would like to highlight those entities who show exemplar instructional skills and project a polished and professional attitude towards their students.

The qualities we look for are:

  1. Quality of classroom-presented materials:
    1. No one wants to sit in a class and be talked down to or belittled by an arrogant know-it-all whose only agenda is to collect your course fee and run. The instructor must project a concerned attitude that bestows concern for the successful completion of the instruction with an emphasis on safety for all concerned.
    2. Graphics and handouts that are clear, concise and fully explanatory. This provides for the ability of the student to refresh their mental skill-set long after the course has ended.
    3. Instructor's skills at projecting the basics of the course's classroom block should be easy to understand but complete in its purpose. No one expects a cop who teaches other cops to educate at the same level as a University Professor, but he or she should be able to have everyone in the room understand the materials.
  2. Quality of lab-presented materials:
    1. Obviously, a course on long-hall room-clearing is different from one on explosive-breaching, but each require 100% attention of the students not only for safety's sake but for 100% retention of the skill-set being taught. The instructor MUST maintain the attention of the students at all time. Their ability to maintain order through constant question & answer attacks towards the students keeps them on their toes for the entire time.
    2. Safety considerations that are presented as paramount to the student's skill-set application should be presented as "to the letter" doctrine. Anything less could mean injury and/or death.
    3. Everyone participates in the lab work. No wall-flowers are to slip through the course who's only purpose for being there is to all another certificate to their training folder. A good or even great instructor will insure that EVERYONE participates and has a chance to go "hands-on" and self demonstrate the desired skill-set being taught.
  3. An instructor who projects a desire to teach a skill-set with enough enthusiasm that instills an emotion within the student that the person up in front of the classroom really cares that each and every student makes it back home to their loved ones, each and every night of their life working their chosen carrier.

This is not a complete list of our requirements and we like to keep our personal insights into an instructor's abilities close to the vest, but if you fulfill the above requirements, we would consider you or your instructors for inclusion to our LINKS page.
