The HMLP designed by us for the hardest working ESU teams in the world!
The HMLP Ballistic Shield has generated is excited to announce the availability of the new “High Mobility/Low Profile” Ballistic Shield. This shield has been custom designed by us with input from the Instructor Staff of a 38,000 cop department. These guys teach the “Ballistic Shield Operator’s Course” for their agency. Their experience in deploying a ballistic shield in real world operations including barricade, hostage rescue, high risk warrant service is unrivaled. Over a thousand Calls for Service a month makes these guys the busiest Special Operations Division in the country. That's a hundred calls per 3 tours for 10 units. Now that's BUSY!!

Several years ago when we first introduced the idea of the HMLP to this agency, they couldn't understand how a lighter, stronger, better balanced shield would make their jobs that much easier. At the time, if it stopped bullets, it worked, but when the tactical principles that these operators utilize when deploying a ballistic shield in their operations, were modified to utilize the superior design, ergonomic handle and low-point balance point of the HMLP, their officers were quite simply, “blown away”. Deploying a shield in an offensive manner where the user does not have to sacrifice mobility, flexibility and speed over an extended period of time is critical for success.

Achieving these goals requires the proper training to get the most out of the equipment. Never scrimp on training.

This shield is lightweight, (only 12.5 lbs without lighting option) balanced from top to bottom and left to right and provides IIIA ballistic protection. The Carry Handle is securely attached with bolts that are shot by NIJ for certification. At just under 3 feet tall, this shield is perfect for aircraft, bus and railroad interiors as well as narrow hallways and stairwells. Add our 540 lumen white light LED illuminator for even more operability in hostile or dark operations.

Speedway standoff ends with arrest

Police say man fired 40+ rounds, held them at bay nearly 4 hours

A SWAT team subdued a Speedway man Friday after a nearly four-hour standoff with police.

Anthony Russ, 26, was arrested after officers fired tear gas in the 2200 block of Hermitage Way. He was taken to Wishard Memorial Hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.

Lt. Trent Theobald of the Speedway Police Department said a neighbor called police after hearing gunshots coming from Russ' apartment. Police evacuated the apartments and called the SWAT team, due to a history of police runs to the area, Theobald said.

Police said Russ fired more than 40 rounds from his 40 caliber handgun during the ordeal. One .40 S&W bullet that went through the door before the SWAT team entered hit an officer's HMLP shield. He was unharmed.

Police took Russ into custody just before 8 p.m. without firing any shots. Three canisters of tear gas were fired into the apartment.

"We didn't know what was behind that door," Theobald said. "I can't praise the officers enough for the restraint they showed tonight." The officers had been recently trained in the proper deployment of the HMLP just previous of this encounter.

Investigators said they have not determined what caused Russ to begin firing shots. Police said a fire also started inside the apartment, but the cause is unknown.

More than 50 neighbors watched the events unfold, and several firetrucks, ambulances and police cars were at the scene.

Shanise Berry, 31, said she heard the shots about 4 p.m. when she came to the apartment to pick up her sister.

"You could hear him shooting at them (police)," Berry said. "You could hear the little 'pop pop pop.' "

Terrance Booker, 32, was one of the residents evacuated.

"They (police) said we had to evacuate because the bullets might go through the walls," Booker said.
